Our beautiful, faithful, pet Midori passed away yesterday at 1:00 pm. She had undergone extensive surgery to remove cancerous tumors and her gall-bladder, and had come through like a trooper. But on a guided walk, a blood clot stopped her mighty heart. Midori was indeed our Alpha Pet--she ruled all dogs, all cats and all humans at Cielo Azul. Her photo above, her last, depicts her fighting spirit, even in pain and in her "Elizabethan Collar" prior to surgery. Few of us will in our lifetime encounter any creature with such an indomitable spirit as this little dog! Giano suspected that she was a "Pueblo Dog"--a relative of the short Chow-like dogs writers first encountered among the Indians. (Another possible link to their Asian past prior to crossing the Bearing Strait) All we know is that she was a noble and courageous being--from her early discovery in a culvert in Taos to her defiant and brave struggle to survive. MIDORI, WE HARDLY KNEW 'YE--AND THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER TO MATCH YOU!!!
