Our longtime friend, Connie, invited us to attend the opening of a joint family Art Show.........

At the Art Museum of the Pueblo of
Pojaque. Behind me is a musician arriving to perform at this beautifully appointed affair. There was
silver work, paintings, and multi-media art created by Connie and her son.............

And also some very inventive fashions created by...............

Connie's gorgeous and talented daughter...................

After sampling the scrumptious eats, the menfolk gather outside for a special treat......

A visiting group of
Inuit Dancers staged an amazing program. The first dance featured "
snow" that is
reminiscent of their home in Alaska.....................

The other dances featured beautifully carved and painted wooden masks. Note the attached pulleys................

When pulled, they reveal the "scary eyes" that mark this dance................

No doubt many an Eskimo child has had scary dreams about these figures.....................

Nothing says "summer" better than a pretty barefoot girl in a flowery dress....................

More carved masks for this dance. The dancers who are from
sea level were laboring in the NM elevation and heat.........................

Because these masks are also "operational", the dancers must tend both to feet and hand movements....................

On these masks, the beaks open and close and periodically the group would form a tight circle and clack their beaks all at once........................

The awesome wolf makes his appearance......................

Some of the larger masks weigh up to 40 pounds..................

Our Santa Fe contingent feels so
privileged to see these dances that have never been performed in New Mexico before..................

Of course, to Native Americans in Alaska, the whale is very significant..................

This mask featured
movable fins and a pursuing native whaler...............

Because of a cherished legend, the eagle is particularly sacred to this particular c
lan..............

And this mask was created with special care............................

To reveal a multitude of fellow
eagles within.................

Oh to be so beautiful, kind, creative, young and lovely--the world is
her's to conquer.....................

Thank you, dear Connie, for an
unforgettable evening!
