I also posed in the darling room next to ours--really, each one was cuter than the one before. And they were actually quite large--bigger than they seem in the photos......
Did I mention that they were no TVs or radios in the Inn? This is one of several bookcases throughout the Inn with lots of good books to read. Both Dwight and I found interesting books to read.....
I meet a chief in the lobby--Chickasaw?
This is the communal table where we met lots of other interesting travelers. The promotional information on the Inn promised a "continental breakfast". Our continental breakfast included: ham, eggs, potatoes, bacon, rolls and oatmeal! The piano in the background is one of many musical instruments provided for evening gatherings of guests.....
In the lobby with the Victrola......
More instruments and reading material. In the travel journals in our room, I read many entries from guests who raved about the evening concerts by other guests in the lobby or at the nightly campfire out in the courtyard.....
The front entrance of the Sulphur Springs Inn. Dwight is looking directly at the forest.....
Now for the real reason we came to Oklahoma--a chance to spend time with Aunt Joh--the wisest and most talented woman I have ever met! She picked us up to take us on a tour of the Chickasaw National Forest and the other surroundings of Sulphur.....
This is Turner Falls--the highest waterfall in Oklahoma....
This is cousin Cara--she is training in Texas on International Sign Language to assist in Bible training of young folks who are hearing impaired.....
From the Ridge overlooking the falls, you can see the outline of the Lodge there. The lodge, like the trails, bridges and other camping facilities are the product of the CCC Program of the Great Depression.....
Sooooo happy to be here!
Next stop, Veteran's Lake. This is so close to where Joh and other relatives live, that Cousin Sarah jogs around this entire lake each morning for her daily exercise......
The ladies of the lake.....
Oklahoma is for lovers!
The view of the town of Sulphur from Bromide Hill.........
Deer in the forest--minutes from the Inn.......
This lovely place on the creek is called Little Niagra......
Nestled between these two waterfalls is a swimming hole about three feet deep with a sandy bottom that the school children can reach in five minutes from school.........
We love it here!!
I think this is Travertine Creek, but it could be Guy Sandy Creek. Joh has immortalized this lovely scenery in her poems and writings....
Our generous guide........
Part of the display in the Visitor's Center.......
