SANTA FE INDIAN MARKET 2012

Because of the rush on getting the Zozobra Booth pictures out quickly, it might seem like we are  haphazardly jumping around chronologically in the postings on this blog, but I am now returning back to the spot at which I left off before Fiesta.  To make matters even a bit more confusing, I will be posting photos from the May-June trip to NYC and all the summer's weddings well into the upcoming winter season when I hope to have sufficient time to work on the large number of photos for each event.  So, just lean back, enjoy the ride and I hope you appreciate the whimsy............
Our buddy Waymon has arrived and we are ready to take off to market......

So after a quick squirt of the garden..........

It's off to Market we go...........

Where we are treated to a vast array of wondrous Native American wares....

Some very traditional.......

And some very new and different--like these award-winning baskets woven from parchment strips of broken treaties and other historical documents that detail the tragic history of the policies of the U.S. Government and the Indians.....................

Here Waymon learns the details of the art form from the husband of the artist--behind Waymon is some of her other artworks..............

The plaza is just bursting with the colorful sights of the market and the sounds of drums and Indian music, and the smells of the native foods in the booths........

With relatives on both sides of his lineage that are Plains Indians, Dwight truly appreciates this hide painting.....

While I appreciate this lovely stone corn maiden.......

I think she would be lovely in our garden.......

Beautiful plains textiles..........

We attended on Sunday, and the crowds were smaller, and the weather cooler......
This piece is a combination of traditional and avante guarde.......

 An elegant bronze..............

Waymon and Dwight enjoy talking to the artists.......

And seeing the many treasures.....

And enjoying the art in the galleries as well............

This glass piece seems to have Eskimo origins......

And this crazy cabinet is definitely one of my favorites--crafted by a woman I might add........

Speaking of women........a lovely Indian girl in tribal dress.........

Enjoying a luscious lunch at Burro Alley Cafe...........

With a view up Burro Alley.......
So it's 'Goodbye" to the splendors of Indian Market.......

And looking forward to next year and visiting Indian Market again!!!
